Enticement of Women Fact or Fiction
Section 498 of the Penal Code is a little-known provision of our Malaysian Penal Code which makes it a criminal offence to entice a married woman with the intent that she perform illicit intercourse. In the past, this provision has been used 6 times, the last time in 1976.
Section 498 has recently been making headlines, and is now under public scrutiny, stirring debate from all sides of the divide.
Discussions have ranged from those who support the section as providing a check in marital relations, others condemn it as being out-dated or because it views women as mindless chattels, while some say it is discriminatory to men calling for a wider interpretation to include enticement of men.
Whatever your views on Section 498, come find out more.
Do come and listen to Ms Honey Tan , an activist and lawyer who will unravel and discuss with us “Enticement of Women: Section 498 PC: Fact or Fiction”.
When: 12th August 2010 at 6-8pm
Where: Auditorium 3 , PB Block, PJ Campus, UTAR
